The journey into law…
Jodie began her legal career in a medium size law firm in Sydney, commuting up to four hours a day and studying law of an evening and weekend. Jodie was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW in 2002 and has enjoyed a diverse legal career spanning over thirty years in both the private and public sector.
Experience in family law
Jodie Black has experience in a broad range of family law matters, including divorce and separation, children’s issues, and the relocation and recovery of children. She has worked on applications and advocacy in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, as well as property settlements, property transfers, and equitable interest claims on property. Her experience also includes international cases, Hague Convention matters, domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse issues, mediation, and the enforcement of court orders.
Other areas of expertise
Litigation, employment law, property law, commercial law (equity, contract and construction) Dust Diseases, Wills and Estates. Jodie has represented clients in the Local, District and Supreme Court of New South Wales, Federal Court of Australia, the former Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the exclusive jurisdiction of the Dust Diseases Tribunal. Jodie has also assisted clients in matters at The Royal Courts of Justice and County Courts in the United Kingdom and has lectured in the public and private sector.

Passion outside of the law
Jodie is passionate about her family, swimming, theatre and travel. Jodie also has a keen interest in seniors promoting the autonomy and dignity of seniors including social prescribing and intergenerational programs to combat loneliness, mental health and to enhance better cognitive and social outcomes.
