The terms child custody and contact are terms that were used in the past to describe how children would divide their time between their separated or divorced parents. These terms would usually be used in relation to living and visiting arrangements.

The term parenting arrangement is now used to describe a child’s living and visiting arrangements and agreements.

While parenting arrangement is the newer terminology, we continue to use the term child custody as many people still understand it and refer to it.
