The journey into law…
Shelley did not follow the traditional path into law, but instead, she was drawn to family law after experiencing the system firsthand. This experience ignited her passion to assist others in navigating the complexities of family matters, particularly those who have limited knowledge of the legal process, available resources, or what to expect. While raising her children, Shelley began her Bachelor of Laws at Griffith University Gold Coast in 2019. She was admitted to the legal profession by the Supreme Court of Queensland in July 2022, followed shortly by admission to the High Court of Australia. Throughout her career, Shelley has had the privilege of providing legal services to families and individuals, working with community legal services and family law firms to support those in need.
Experience in family law
Shelley has gained extensive experience in family law from various perspectives. Additionally, as a stepmother, she has developed a deeper understanding of the challenges and dynamics that arise within blended families. This personal experience, combined with her legal knowledge of the family law system, enables her to effectively and reasonably guide her clients through their matters, always striving for the best possible outcome for all parties involved while minimising the need for Court intervention.
Other areas of expertise
Shelley also has experience in personal injury law, specialising in areas such as public liability, motor vehicle accidents, medical negligence, superannuation claims, and employment disputes.
The passion for family law
Shelley’s passion for family law was sparked by a deep-rooted desire to assist individuals in navigating some of the most difficult and emotional moments of their lives. Growing up, she observed the complex dynamics within families and saw how these relationships could sometimes unravel under stressful circumstances. While she had always been intrigued by the law, it wasn’t until she encountered family law firsthand that she realised how profoundly it resonated with her. This experience fuelled her desire to pursue a career in family law, where she could be an advocate who not only understands the legal framework but also appreciates the sensitive nature of family relationships and the emotional toll they can take on clients.
Our care for clients
Shelley strives to create a safe and supportive environment for her clients, where they feel comfortable discussing sensitive matters. Recognising the importance of keeping clients informed, she ensures they receive timely updates throughout the entire process. Shelley’s warm, approachable demeanour, combined with her legal expertise and strong negotiation skills, allows her to offer the guidance, support, and representation they need to move forward, rebuild, and begin their new chapter.
Why Unified?
What drew Shelley to Unified Lawyers was not only their welcoming nature but also their family-oriented approach, where every employee is treated as part of the family, rather than just another employee. Unified Lawyers fosters a work environment where happiness and positivity are central, ultimately leading to better outcomes for clients. Shelley was also inspired by the firm’s mission to prioritise personal connections with clients over billings, truly valuing their needs and well-being. She is passionate about making a meaningful contribution to individuals and families facing difficult and emotional challenges, and Shelley believes Unified Lawyers is the ideal place to achieve that.
Passion outside of the law
When Shelley is not working, she loves spending quality time with her family and friends, getting creative in the kitchen, nurturing her garden, and embarking on adventures with her loved ones, where they create lifelong memories.
