The journey into law…
Sharon started her legal career, in New Zealand, as an Office Administrator and Partner’s Assistant at a property and conveyancing law firm. After nearly two years, she transitioned into a more specialised area of law, working as a Law Clerk for a Senior Barrister, focusing on family law, trusts, and estates. Following her admission to the High Court of New Zealand, she progressed to the role of Junior Barrister Associate, supporting complex litigation and advisory work in these areas.
The passion for family law
Sharon’s interest in family law was initially sparked by witnessing the impact that separation and custody matters had on children and families during her six years working in the childcare sector. She was motivated to contribute to assisting families through these difficult circumstances in a safer and more supportive manner, with a strong focus on child welfare and stability. Since qualifying as a family law practitioner, Sharon has been able to actively pursue this objective. She finds family law very rewarding as it provides the opportunity to make a significant and positive difference in the lives of individuals during a challenging and emotionally stressful period of their lives.
Sharon values providing support, clarity, and guidance when clients feel overwhelmed, and finds it incredibly rewarding to help clients navigate complex and emotional situations towards resolution and stability.
Experience in family law
Sharon has experience advising on a wide range of family law matters, including relationship property disputes (both simple and complex asset structures), parenting and guardianship issues, child support, and spousal maintenance.
She has appeared in the Auckland Family Court as junior counsel and assisted in mediation and out-of-court settlement processes, where she has worked to achieve pragmatic and client-focused outcomes.
She regularly drafts relationship property agreements, spousal maintenance agreements, and parenting plans. Sharon takes a practical and empathetic approach, helping clients navigate challenging personal matters with clear and solutions-focused advice.
Other areas of expertise
In addition to family law, Sharon has experience working on trust and estate matters and assisting in family provision litigation.
Our care for clients
Sharon communicates with clients in a calm, empathetic, and clear manner. She takes the time to actively listen to clients, explain complex legal concepts in plain language, and help clients focus on long-term outcomes rather than short-term emotions.
Sharon views her role not only as a legal advisor but a jack of all trades, someone who helps clients navigate some of the most challenging times in their lives. She always strives to approach each case with empathy, integrity, and a strong focus on the client’s needs.
