The journey into law…

Rachael initially commenced her law career working in employment law, however, she felt a desire to make a more meaningful impact on people’s lives. Six months later, she made the switch to family law and has never looked back.

Rachael recently had the valuable opportunity to practise in the Northern Territory for 16 months. This opportunity exposed Rachael to rare, highly contentious and litigious matters, expediting her knowledge in complex family law matters.

Rachael looks forward to applying this knowledge and learning even more as she joins the Unified Family.

Experience in family law

Rachael is an experienced family lawyer with a strong focus on complex, high-conflict parenting matters. Her expertise spans cases involving relocation, psychological issues, special-needs children, substance abuse, child abduction and recovery, family violence, and child protection matters involving welfare authorities. She is also experienced in property proceedings and settlements, including financial agreements, business interests and intricate financial disclosure issues.

Following 16 months of practice in the Northern Territory, Rachael has developed extensive experience in highly litigious and challenging matters. This has equipped her with the confidence and resilience to advocate effectively for her clients and to pursue outcomes with unequivocal determination. Her approach is both strategic and forward-thinking, with a clear focus on achieving practical, long-term resolutions tailored to each client’s circumstances.

Rachael is committed to guiding clients through what are often uncertain and emotionally demanding situations. She provides clear, considered advice on immediate next steps while maintaining a focus on the broader outcome. Rachael works closely with clients to navigate the complexity of family situations and legal proceedings to deliver solutions that respond to clients’ evolving needs.

Other areas of expertise

Early in her legal career, Rachael gained experience in employment law, advocating for both employees and employers. This experience strengthened her ability to balance competing interests while maintaining a clear focus on achieving efficient and practical resolutions.

The passion for family law

Rachael was initially drawn to family law because of its unique combination of interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and the ability to make a lasting impact on people. Family law offers a rare opportunity in the legal sphere to go beyond traditional law practice and support individuals through some of most challenging and vulnerable moments of their lives. Rachael views this opportunity as a rewarding responsibility to serve the people around her and goes back to her reasons for becoming a lawyer initially; helping people in any way she can.

This alignment with Rachael’s values is why she is so passionate about family law and why that passion is constantly motivating her to be the best family lawyer she can be.
